Science in the CitySECO’s Book Study Workshop
In Science in the City, Bryan A. Brown examines how language and culture matter for effective science teaching. Given the realities of our multilingual and multicultural society, teachers must truly understand how issues of culture intersect with the fundamental principles of teaching.
The book illustrates how science education can flourish if it is connected to students’ backgrounds, identities, language and culture. The result is a classroom that showcases how the use of more familiar, cultural relevant modes of communication can pave the way for improved science teaching.
The book study includes five one-hour virtual sessions, with contact hour and graduate credit options. The first session is January 12, 2022 from 4:00-5:00.
