Close Reading in the Classroom (nonfiction texts; all content areas)
Experience “Close Reading” strategies to make nonfiction texts accessible to all students. Samples will span the grades and content areas. Help students dissect passages from a variety of “complex texts,” “read like a detective,” identify tiered vocabulary and use text-dependent questions.
Activities will take students from individual to group to whole class tasks. Time will be provided for teachers to plan ways to incorporate the strategies into their own practice.
