Mission Statement 

The mission of the Science Education Council of Ohio (SECO) is to transform science education into an experience that instills wonder and equips students with the tools to navigate and contribute to an ever-evolving world.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Science Education Council of Ohio is to empower every Ohio student with a deep understanding of science through engaging, student-centered practices. We envision a future where science is brought to life for every student, daily across all grade levels and in all educational settings. Science shall be integrated into all subjects in order to foster curiosity, critical thinking, and a commitment to lifelong learning. By promoting meaningful, inquiry-based experiences, we strive to cultivate scientifically literate citizens. 

Strategic Priorities

Our strategic plan is built on 4 key priorities.

  1. Supportive Community- Create a supportive community that includes all stakeholders who influence science education in Ohio. 
  2. Educational Experiences- Provide multi-faceted educational experiences to members to improve their knowledge and practice.
  3. Champion for Science Education- Strive to be champions for science education by providing advocacy at the district, state, and federal levels.
  4. Organizational Best Practices- Maintain long-term stability for the organization by utilizing sustainable business practices.

The Science Education Council of Ohio (SECO) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

SECO is the Ohio chapter of the National Science Teaching Association. Established since 1976.
